Competition

Do you think that by 2026 we will get to school, college or university in Birmingham by teleporting or travelling on motorised hover boards? Or will there still be buses and trains? That’s the question being asked to students in 2009 by members of the city’s Young People’’s Transport Steering Group, under three months away from the ‘Shaping Birmingham’s Transport’ Youth Conference.

Answer the question by making an entry to the ‘Your Vision: 2026′ competition and you could be presenting your ideas to young people and decision makers at the Youth Conference, as well as winning a bike and travel pass for each member of your group!

Pav Dhande, 17, from Handsworth Wood, chair of the Birmingham Young Person’s Transport Steering Group explained: “This is a fantastic opportunity for young people to demonstrate their imagination, but at the same time have their say on the future of their city. It’s also the start of a dialogue between decision-makers and young people which won’t just fade at the end of the summit.”

Here are answers to some questions you may have on the competition:

So what do I need to do to enter the competition?

To enter the you’ll need to work in a group and create a presentation, using any type of media, to show what your vision of future transport in Birmingham will look.

Any type of media?

Yep, you can make a video, slideshow, posters, or even a singing/dancing/acting performance. It really is down to how you can best get your message across.

How many people can be in a group?

You can work in groups of up to 5 people. All group members must be aged between 14-19.

What should be in the presentation? Where do we start?

Don’t worry, we understand that its no easy task to visualise the transport system of such a large city - so head over to the Tips and Advice page for some ideas on where to start. Also, make sure you have a look at the Rules page before you get started. Remember, the presentation should be no longer than 10 minutes.

How do we send our entry in?

Download the application form from the link at the bottom of this page and email it to info@brumtransport.co.uk (tip: if your entry is too large to send as an attachment, send it through www.yousendit.com - feel free to email us if you have any problems)

What happens then?

Four entries will then be selected to give a 10 minute presentation of their ideas at the Youth Conference. Young people attending the conference will then have an opportunity to ask questions before voting for the top entry. Members of the winning group will receive a bike each, as well as a free travel pass.

Download the entry form and send it completed and with all the materials relating to your presentation to info@brumtransport.co.uk. One of the team will confirm receipt of your entry within 48 hours. Good luck!
